Corded vs Cordless – Which is best?
There are corded and cordless water flosser options, with the latter having a rechargeable or single use battery. I personally prefer to use a cordless flosser because it’s more convenient and you don’t need to worry about where you’re going to plug it in. If you’re like me, you might not like to use corded electronics in the bathroom or near water for safety reasons.
With cordless flosser, you do need to make sure you charge them up or have fresh batteries so they’re ready to use. These generally don’t take long to charge up for a single use and once they are fully charged, they last a long time. Getting into the habit of using them before bed and placing them on a charger when done will mean you won’t run out of battery.

Top 10 Cordless Water Flosser Reviews
Waterpik WP 560 Cordless Advanced Flosser
This cordless flossing system is fantastic and has a capacity of 45 seconds. The device is rechargeable and uses magnetic charging when the flosser is docked in the charger. It’s able to provide 360 degree cleaning, so you can really feel the benefit of the cleaning. Within as little as two weeks, you’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of reduced plaque and bacteria.
There are three pressure settings and you can also use it with mouthwash too. It comes with four different tips to be used with braces or with sensitive teeth, depending on your requirements.
My impressions
This model feels incredibly high quality, as soon as you bring it out of the box you will feel like it’s well designed. While the reservoir is quite big, you won’t feel like it’s getting in your way when you use it. I love the fact that it’s rechargeable and it doesn’t take long to reach a full charge.
There’s a small carry pouch that comes with the flosser and it really makes a difference for keeping it clean while you’re traveling. This is a step above some of the others on my list and it’s one of the best cordless water flosser options out there.
The chrome finish and slender tips make this a joy to use, whether you’re accustomed to using these tools or if you want to go right in at the high end. I like the fact that it has a lot going on and you can pick how you use it, with all the tips you need for a variety of cleanings. It’s a bit daintier than some of the clumsier models, which is important when it comes to cleaning your mouth. This will also stop your hand from getting as tired while you use it.
What could be better
This flosser is a bit flashier, if you’re looking for a more basic model then it may not be right for you.
Waterpik Cordless Freedom Flosser
This water flosser comes with three tips that you can use for different areas and levels of cleaning. You can set the pressure that you want using the control on the device and go easy on more sensitive areas of the mouth.
This particular model is powered by three AA batteries. It has an ergonomic design which makes it easy to hold and use. It has a large water tank, which means you don’t need to refill it quite as often. You can use either warm water or mouthwash with the flosser for extra freshness, which can also come in handy when it comes to getting rid of bacteria.
My impressions
Waterpik is a well known manufacturer of these items, so this is a product that has been created with years of experience. They give you additional tips and the fact the pressure can be varied makes it great even for those that have sensitive gums. If you’ve been put off my high pressure options in the past then experiment with this one.
Get Waterpik freedom WF-03 at Amazon
The design is a bit bulky, it’s not heavy but the large water tank means the product is a little bigger than what you may be accustomed to. I found that this seemed like a big deal at first but as I became accustomed to using it, I kind of forgot about it. I like the larger water tank, especially for longer high pressure cleaning sessions.
The orthodontic tip is great for those that have braces or implants. This gives an extra layer of flexibility, depending on what you want to use for your teeth. I like the fact that you get these extra tips to make sure that all users are covered and you don’t need to buy specialist flossers. The reservoir capacity lasts around 30 seconds, so more than enough to use the product fully.
What could be better
Personally, I prefer a rechargeable battery rather than single use ones, but this is more of a personal preference than a must have.
Pure daily care water flosser
This flosser is quite powerful, with a total of three settings to select from. The reservoir has a capacity of 150ml, which is large enough to keep it going in the long term. The exact amount of time that you get from this time will depend on the pressure setting that you use.
Within the package, you’ll get four tips and a dental care kit too. This allows you to look forward to all around oral health, with a mirror to check out any parts of your mouth that you may have missed.
My impressions
When I opened up this flosser, I was immediately struck by all of the different things you get with it. You get four different tips, a travel case and a dental care kit. This is a lot of additional tools, but it’s up to you if you feel you need these or not.
The tips are color coded too, so if you’re planning to share this tool with others in the home then you’ll be able to know who’s using what tip. If you’re trying to encourage your kids to use a water flosser then this can be a great option, as they get to pick which one they want to use. It’s certainly gone down a treat with the kids in our house!
The size of the flosser also makes it good for kids too, whether they’re using it alone or if an adult is helping out. If you’re using the higher pressure settings, then you may need to fill the reservoir a couple of times over the cleaning.
This really is an impressive package of dental care tools, which is fantastic for those that really want the full package.
What could be better
There’s a lot of additional stuff included with this product, but you may not need all of it for your dental care.
Electric dental water flosser
This product comes with a rechargeable lithium ion battery, which lasts a long time between charges. It’s got a long reach nozzle, which has been designed to be able to reach all areas of the mouth, without leaving any gaps. There are four nozzles included with the package, the flosser is also programmed with different levels of pressure too.
The capacity of the reservoir is 180ml, which will last between 1 to 2 minutes on different pressure settings. It also comes with a small travel bag that can be used to take the product with you wherever you’re going.
Our impression
This might not be the flashiest product or come with the biggest amount of accessories, but it certainly does the job. I only had to fill the flosser once for a full clean that varied from medium to high pressure. I tried the product over a couple of weeks and I only had to charge it once during that time, so both capacities are pretty big.
There’s a USB charger included with the product and the LED light on the front indicates when the product is fully charged. I found it easy to get into the habit of using this and popping it on the charger when it needed it.
The flosser is really powerful on the highest setting, which was perhaps a bit much for my teeth. If you have sensitive teeth then you might want to go with a lower setting, as this really is strong!
I really enjoyed using this product and I found it to be the best cordless water flosser for the cost, as it’s not as costly as some of the other options out there. I think this offers good value for money and a decent option for an entry level product.
Greenvida electric cordless oral irrigator
This is a high pressure system that will be able to reach just about every section of your mouth. The waterproof sealing around the unit makes it easy to recharge when you’re not using it. It comes with a bag for the product and also a USB charger and adapter. Charging this product up takes around eight hours and a single charge can last up to two weeks.
The product comes with four different tips to use and a travel bag too. The water tank can hold up to 150ml of water, depending on the setting you use this can last for a few minutes. The device has three preprogrammed settings, ranging from low to high pressure.
Our impression
I really enjoyed using this product, as the design feels great when you’re using it. Some of these products can feel bulky, especially when filled with water, but this isn’t one of them. The first time I used it, I ended up spouting water everywhere, as I didn’t realize just how high the high pressure setting really was!
My dentist actually noticed a difference in my hygiene while using this product, as I was obviously blasting that bacteria away! The rotating tip jets mean that you don’t miss any part of your mouth, my wisdom teeth were really glad to get a good cleaning thanks to this water flosser.
Again it comes with four tips, for sharing or just for keeping for yourself. I felt a difference using this product from the first day, as my teeth started to feel as clean as they do leaving the dentist. The small bag that came with it meant I was also able to pack it away to take on the next family holiday too, so there were no excuses for not flossing then!
What could be better
I really liked this product, however it may not suit those that need a lower pressure setting or more gentle pulsation.
Waterpik water flosser WP-360W
Touting healthier teeth in just two weeks, this model has some powerful pressure behind it. You customize the pressure that you want using a high or low pressure tip. The opening in the tip decides how high pressure the water is, so you can alternate between these for comprehensive cleaning.
The rechargeable water flosser has a capacity of 30 seconds, so it’s smaller than some of the other ones in my cordless water flosser reviews. There’s a warranty of a year that comes with it, which has you covered if there’s any damage to the product.
Our impression
I’ve used quite a few Waterpik flossers over the years and this one has to be one of my favorites. I feel like it offers a good middle ground between their cheaper and more expensive models. As you take it out of the packaging, you will be pleasantly surprised by just how much this has to offer.
Although the capacity is only 30 seconds per fill, you’ll find that it’s easy enough to refill this between the top and bottom teeth. I really enjoyed using this product, my only niggle would be a lack of LED lighting on the front to let you know when it is fully charged.
It’s incredibly durable and it really doesn’t feel like it’s cheap at all. The casing is quite thick, but you won’t find this getting in your way while you’re using it. The tip allows you to get into every part of the mouth, with the high pressure allowing you to really get into those hard to reach sections.
It might not be the top of the line model, but this one more than does the job that you need it to do.
What could be better
The addition of an LED light on the front would be ideal to let you know when the product is fully charged.
VAVA water dental flosser
This modern dental flosser is one of the top ones on my list. It has three jet tips included within it and three different settings to use too. This makes this product suitable for all users, whether you need a massage setting or some high pressure cleaning.
It gets rid of a lot of plaque and bacteria, that wouldn’t be removed by brushing. The tip emits water in 360 degrees, so you won’t miss any parts of the plaque that really need to be cleaned.
The water tank is located at the bottom of the device and you can take this off quickly to refill and clean it.
Our impression
This is one of the most stylish version that I’ve tried over the course of my cordless water flosser reviews. The bright blue design and nice buttons mean that you really are in for a treat when you try this one out. It’s really one of the nicest flossers that I’ve ever used, though your personal tastes may vary from mine.
When cycling through the modes, I found that massage was my favorite to use, though this may not be for everyone. I found the gentle and standard modes a bit too weak for my liking, as I felt like they weren’t cleaning as much of the plaque away as I wanted. This will just come down to what you need though, you may enjoy a different level of cleaning than I do.
The 360 degree tip was a godsend though, as I always struggle to get to certain areas of my mouth. That’s no longer an issue though, as this little water flosser made all my dreams come true. There are even some extra tips included in case you find yourself having to share this product with anyone else in your home.
What could be better
Personally, I’d love to see even more modes for this model to offer more options for users.
Portable oral Irrigator by Poseidon
If you’re looking for an irrigator with a big tank capacity, then this one is perfect for you. The ergonomic design means that you can fill this up with water, without feeling the strain on your wrist when you’re using it. There are a whole load of customizable features to experiment with too.
The motor is incredibly quiet and is powered by a rechargeable battery. It will turn off after you’ve finished the clean, so it will conserve power so you don’t need to charge as often. It comes with a handy charger that you can use with any USB outlet.
Our impression
The most notable thing about this water flosser is that it’s so incredibly quiet. At first I didn’t even think that it was on! If you find that noisier flossers have put you off from using them then you will like this model.
The flosser holds up to 150ml of water, depending on which setting you use it will last up to two minutes. The pulse option on this device is my personal favorite, as I like the way the pulsations get rid of larger bits of plaque. The normal setting is excellent to finish off with, as this will give you a good overall clean that is brilliant for ending the clean.
There’s a quick release button on the device which allows you to easily change the tip. I’ve had my fair share of pulling off tips or rather attempting to, so this button is a welcome addition for me.
You get a charger and a carry case with the flosser, so you can take it with you. The additional tips are also a brilliant extra that regular users will require. This is a high quality item with a lot of additional extras that I actually very much appreciated.
What could be better
The normal setting might not be quite high enough for users that are accustomed to a high pressure system to clean with.
Philips Sonicare airfloss ultra
Philips are known as the name in oral hygiene and they’re proving it once again with this product. The Airfloss Ultra is their answer to the water flosser market, which they have aimed to enter in style.
It comes with two tips, mouthwash and a charger. The programmable settings on the water flosser allow for various bursts and pressures to be used. This will allow the device to meet your exacting specifications, no matter what these might be.
There’s even a choice of color for those that want their water flosser to match their favorite color, whether that’s silver, pink or black.
Our impression
I’ll be honest, when I heard that this product was from Philips I was expecting a lot. I’m incredibly happy to report that this item lived up to their good name. With an almost unparalleled range of choices and programs, this really is a pleasure to use.
The manufacturers offer a refund if you’re not satisfied after 90 days of use, but you won’t need it. It’s one of the most comprehensive water flossers on the market and if you don’t like this one, you most likely won’t find one that you do like.
They recommend that they use this for 60 seconds each day, which will allow it to last for up to 2 weeks between charges. Just using this after brushing can drastically decrease your risk of cavities and cut down on dangerous plaque.
My most used program is the pulse setting, as it is able to loosen even the most stubborn foods. This is a great option for those that want to loosen any bigger debris before blasting the plaque with the higher pressure. It suits the entire cleaning schedule from start to finish with a whole load of flexibility.
What could be better
I would enjoy some higher pressure settings as well as the pulse settings, for all round cleaning.
Panasonic EW-DJ10-A Portable Dental Water Flosser
Panasonic have thrown their hat into the ring with this cordless water flosser, with the EW-DJ10-A. This flosser comes with a sleek design and two speed pulsing. This powerful flosser is a great addition to any dental care routine, with enough settings to keep you trying new things.
The flosser is entirely waterproof, making it much easier for you to clean. It comes with a charger and the rechargeable battery can be used for up to a month before it needs charged once more. The chamber is 150ml and is simple to detach and then refill too.
Our impression
This flosser is definitely one of the fancier products that I’ve tried over the years, with a really sleek design. This is exactly what I’d expect from the likes of Panasonic, so it’s not exactly a massive surprise that they’ve turned their designers loose on this product.
Actually trying the product was a breeze, though there’s definitely a need for more than two speeds to be involved. The design is a bit different, as the water chamber is the main part and the spout almost feels like an afterthought. While this gives it a big capacity, it’s not always the simplest to maneuver in your mouth.
It really is a well made product and it doesn’t feel cheap in the slightest. Although it’s not the most expensive on the market, it’s still very user friendly. With the simple controls, you can boost the pulse frequency with ease, just with a flick of a switch. I’d love to see some further controls on there too, just to give me that extra degree of flexibility, rather than just sticking to pulse settings.
What could be better
More settings and a simpler design would perhaps be better for this product, as users would really appreciate these options.
What do You Have to Look Out for Before You Buy?
-
Higher reservoir capacity
You want to be using a product that allows you to get a full clean as you don’t want to be stopping every few minutes to top up the water. A bigger water capacity means fewer time needed to stop and top up, which in turn means less time spent cleaning.
-
Easy pressure control
Flicking between the different pressures available should be as simple as pressing a button. I personally like water flossers with a range of options that are fairly simple to use while flossing. Whether it’s a flick switch or a button, I want it to be as easy as possible to move through these modes.
-
Modes
Predetermined modes and outputs also help to make using these easier. Pulsing, for example, pushes small bursts of water into the mouth and gets rid of some really big plaque and food waste. You can pulse manually, but if there are options out there with this mode already programmed then this saves you time and effort.
-
Long battery life and universal voltage flexibility
Using one of these long term is great and you don’t want anything to stand in your way of ultimate oral hygiene. A long battery life means you won’t have an excuse when it comes to not wanting to floss. A few weeks of run time after a charge is what I look for.
-
Waterproof
You will need to clean these and you won’t want to have to worry about how you do so. A waterproof design is pretty much essential if you want to keep your flosser clean without giving yourself an electric shock. Look for products that are waterproof resistant at the very least
-
Portability
Once you get accustomed to using these, you don’t want to leave them behind when you travel. A travel case and compatible plug make all the difference when you’re heading abroad with your flosser in tow. Take these with you on the move as you’ll start to feel a bit gross when you stop using them.
-
Low noise design
I hate really noisy flossers, if they screech and churn then they’re not for me. I tend to favor low noise models as you can use them before you go to bed without waking the whole neighbourhood. If you share a bathroom with a partner then you also don’t want to get the blame for waking them up.
-
Bonus tips and dental kits
I’ll always take a freebie, whether that’s some extra tips or a dental kit. If you feel like you want to have these for peace of mind then look for a flosser that comes with them. This can very well save you money when compared to buying them separately.
-
Smart timer
If you’re like me then you’re always waiting to get away from flossing. An in built timer means you won’t be able to sneak off before your time has been served. These tend to buzz or beep when the recommended time is up, so you can head to bed as soon as they do.
-
Clinically proven by dental associations
An endorsement never hurt anyone and a clinical trial really helps me to trust a product. If it has proven results then I’m a bit more likely to actually try it for myself.
How to Get Better Results with a Water Flosser
- Make sure you have brushed fully and well before you get started with the flossing portion.
- Start with water in your flosser and then move onto mouthwash for a second round, which will leave you with fresher breath.
- Start with the gumline, paying particular attention to areas of sensitivities. You can begin with a lower pressure and then work up to a higher one later.
- Blast the areas in between teeth to dislodge any food or debris that may be lurking.
- Give a final brush with a wet toothbrush to get any of this debris out of your mouth and into the sink where it belongs.
